anthropolgie inspired skirt.

This picture is from their official website.
This skirt is very flattering if you have an hourglass figure or want to accentuate your waist.
The high elastic waistband accentuates the waist and seems like it will be comfy. The a-line, slightly full skirt hides wide hip and thighs. the length was perfect for me.

but the price is 118 after tax. I DECIDED  that i need to make one of my own.
this is the end result that i made in one night, so you can see how much i wanted it.
this small print flower fabric that i chose is a bit thick for this kind of skirt.
and I think I made more pleats than i should have so it makes me look fuller around my hip.  But overall i liked it especialy i made it without pattern.
I did purchase it from the store so i have a real thing in hand to be "inspired".
now that i have made it should i just return it? lol

how to make a stylish pencil case by Pink Penguin

First of all, the original tutorial is here from Pink Penguin.
I am just following her instruction and posting my photos.

Here is my huge sewing stuff case/ makeup case. I had my own measurement, because I wanted to use this brown home deco scrap as much as possible so that I won't have some 4'x5' little piece laying around.

The side view of it.
Thank you,  Ayumi, I've always wanted to do this kind of fabric case.
There is a white case in the photo that was a makeup bag from The Body Shop.
I once had a urge to tear it apart just to see how it is assembled.

And this method of applying zipper,
can you see how the  zipper was sandwished between lining and outside fabric.

and adding a tab to the end of zipper just makes the case a more finished look.

A free pattern for Build A Bear workshop store stuffed animals

I got this bunny for my friend's daughter at Build A Bear workshop as Christmas gift. Since I know sewing I didn't bother to buy those overpriced outfits at their store.

But I didn't find any sewing blogger who had stuffed animal patterns. After searching more I did find a post that I thought might be a good fit for this tiny buddy of hers.A tiny baby dress tutorial

This is it.........tiny dress pattern that could only fit a preemie. I skipped the pipe insertion, shortened the length of the skirt. I followed most of steps of her pattern.

The bunny dress turned out rather cute. It is just that I took this photo by iPhone at night time.

Then I didn't stop right there I did my own adjustment to the pattern. That is I made the front a V sharp and enlarged a bit for her penguin.

And then this one strapless raffled dress for penguin also.

Thank you Rae! You have saved me tons of money just to purchase those dresses for stuffed animal.

The famous table runner

My first quilt table runner. finished size: 21 by 70 inches long. my friend has a freaking long dining table. You can find this tutorial here.
or youtube video
The meathod is called "quilt as you go".
Both tutorials are very clear. You should be able to finish in no time.

I brought this table runner to sewing class so I could take some pictures.

My bf and I still live in a tiny apartment so we don't have a long table like my friend does.

But I think I will make different table runners later when we get our own house, talking about different holidays:Thanksgiving, Christmas, valentine's day, Chinese new year, spring time, summer time, 4th July............

I did embroidery a" happy thanksgiving" tag sewn onto the runner, but it doesn't show very well in this photo. So Grace, considering this is your thanksgiving gift.

This is a photo I took using my iphone before applying binding. The happy thanksgiving tag is really nice.

Christmas gift bag or makeup bag

These are what you'll need, a 12 inch zipper, print cotton fabric with medium weight interfacing, another fabric for lining( here i used solid red cotton fabric ) with or without interfacing, lace for adding details (optional).

this shows you how to apply zipper in between two fabrics.

sew along where i pin, baste or one would use sewing tape.

like this.

Turn it over and topstitch, this way you can keep the lining stuck onto the zipper. and do the same for the other side.

sew along the side with half inch allowance.

to hide the raw edge using bias tape to cover it up.

like this

then it should look like this. this way it also gives some body to the bag.

do the same way in four corners.

turn it inside out. ta-da your bag is just done.

load it up with your holiday goodies...... candy, hand lotions, lipstick, toys for kids.
